I Can Fitness AT&T Miami Dade County African American Calendar | The Black Archives History & Research Foundation of South FL, Inc.
Owner Dietrich Harrington understood the significance of health and fitness walking conjointly in trying to meet the challenges of lifestyle changes. These two factors are vital among African Americans because it lends support to the disproportionately high rate of diabetes and obesity particularly in communities of color. These dynamics coupled with limited access to affordable personal training facilitated Dietrich's realization of the need for fitness and health education in his community. In 2010, Dietrich, Roderick Tresvant, and Brian Meadow joined forces as personal trainers, to facilitate "fitness boot-camps". They decided they could better serve the community as a team rather than as individual trainers. I Can Fitness empowers adults, but children as well.
I Can Fitness is diligently working to end childhood obesity through providing training and fitness mentoring at a non-profit school. The trio has also started a non-profit organization "Saving Our County Kids" (S.O.C.K), which focuses on keeping our community safe from violence by using sports and exercise. Money raised through this annual fitness event sponsors children whose parents cannot afford to pay the fees to participate in sports. The goal for "I Can Fitness" is to branch out to serve the entire tri-county area of Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach County Communities with nutritional guidance and affordable fitness training. The motto for I Can Fitness is through Dedication, Desire, Determination, Discipline and Drive we can achieve our goals. They encourage their clients to "Trust the Process" The inspiration for "I Can Fitness" is grounded in Philippians 4:13, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me". At "I Can Fitness", they can and they do because these dynamic trainers trust.
