Jim Berry was born in Chicago, Illinois, where he attended St. Thomas Apostle Elementary and De La Salle High schools. He graduated from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University, and for the past 26 years, Jim has made South Florida his home. A renowned television personality who has been part of the local landscape since 1988, he is an avid tennis player, dancer, and budding singer.
Holding the key position as the main Sports Anchor for CBS4 News, Berry anchors the weeknight sportscasts and the station's extensive Miami Dolphins' coverage. His extensive broadcasting career began in news at WBTV in Charlotte, North Carolina before moving on to WJLA-TV in Washington, D.C., where he was a news reporter and anchor before turning to sports. Berry joined CBS4 in August, 1996 transferring from WBBM-TV, the CBS owned station in Chicago. During his first stint in Miami, he was appointed Sports Director at WSVN-TV. A triple honored Best of Miami winner, Berry is the recipient of numerous awards; including five Emmys, the Silver Circle of Excellence Award for Distinguished Journalism from the Suncoast Chapter of the National Academy of Arts and Sciences, the Ease Foundation's 2015 Humanitarian of the Year, and was recently selected by Legacy South Florida for their "50 Most Powerful and Influential Black Leaders of 2016" issue. Very active in the South Florida community, Berry is a highly requested motivational speaker at local schools and youth organizations, and has been involved with numerous South Florida charities. He has sponsored fundraisers for nonprofit organizations that benefit children and young including: the First Serve Tennis Foundation, where he organized and participated in the Jim Berry Tennis Classic for five years; 5000 Role Models of Excellence, Mourning Family Foundation at the Overtown Youth Center, 100 Black Men of South Florida, Orange Bowl Committee, Educate Tomorrow, New Journeys Transitional Home, Mario V. Chalmers Foundation, Zach & Henry Crockett Foundation, South Florida Athletes in Action, Florida Memorial University, Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Greater Miami, Barry University and the EASE Foundation, where he served as an honorary board member.
Jim Berry is married to his college sweetheart Cheryl, a journalist and author. They have two children, Andre and Jasmine.
