Manuscript Collections have provenance formed by or around an individual, family, corporate entity or subject.  They consist of groups of papers (manuscript or typescript, originals or copies of manuscript or typescript, originals or copies of letters, diaries, memos, minutes, scrapbooks, etc.) including associated printed or near-print materials (fliers, pamphlets, newspaper clippings, etc.) and audio-visual recordings.
