The Dade County Chapter of The Charmettes, Incorporated, is a sisterhood of dedicated women committed to improving the quality of life within our communities through advocacy, education, service and support for cancer research. Founded in June 1951, the organization was formed based on the ideals, principles and backgrounds of dedicated, diversified women who wanted to make a profound difference in their communities. These empowering philanthropists envisioned a towering organization that would one day become the symbol of finer womanhood representing unified black women of distinction. Thus, The Charmettes, Inc. was born in Palm Beach County. Other women of like ideologies and similar backgrounds would join in the mission to organize a network of community strength. The name 'Charmettes' was selected and each member accepted it with great admiration and appreciation.

The Dade County Chapter of The Charmettes, Inc. was the second chapter organized in April of 1955 moving the group into a new era of growth and mobilization. The third chapter was formed in Broward County in 1957. At this time, the membership consisted of ten charming young ladies working together to make The Charmettes, Inc. a successful organization.

In an effort to fulfill a civic need, in 1959 The Charmettes purchased a lifetime membership in the NAACP. In 1963, they became incorporated on a statewide level. In addition to these noteworthy events, the Charmettes, Inc. have contributed to or spearheaded many charitable causes and noteworthy events. The Scholarship Breakfast and the Pink Hat Tea showcases commitment and dedication to supporting various organizations and individuals while advancing the cause of cancer research. The Charmettes are dedicated to instilling value and providing a network for strong African American women who make up their membership; They recognize the important benefits of supporting the eradication of cancer. Dr. Mia Y. Merritt serves as the current president of the Dade County Chapter of the Charmettes, Inc.
